earlier the typhoon that hit the philippines is taking a toll. rachel ferguson is here with the details. >> hi. yes. bopha is now located to the west of the philippines, having moved across the islands. it's still a typhoon, so still a very potent system. winds are sustained at 126 with gusts at 180. so it hasn't changed much recently. it's heading up to the south china sea where it's likely to linger for the next couple of days. its very difficult to see what this storm is going to do, but we will keep a close eye on it. it's still a very powerful system. across the north you're seeing heavy rain continue here. this is because the system is pulling in moisture from the north. but down to the south where the devastation occurred, it is going to be a lot drier, and certainly the winds have died down. so that's good news for the rescue and recovery effort that will be continuing through the next few days. there's another low pressure system headed up it. it will be bringing more snow and really strong winds. winds gusting up to 160 miles per hour.

bringing rain to the north of the philippines. right now, sustained winds are about 120 kilometers per hour with gusts of 180. it's going to stay over the south china sea. that means picking up a lot of moisture so it could intensify even more and it's going to stay here once again. so rough sea conditions will prolong across the coastal areas of the philippines and also strong northeasterly winds will continue to form in the center of the storm. rain will continue, particularly in eastern luzon. further flooding, landslides are going to be an ongoing risk here. up toward the north we have another storm. this is a wintry one moving through northern japan. we can see clouds appearing over the sea of japan. we have reports of about 150 kilometers per hour gusts in yamagata prefecture. conditions will get even worse as the system moves through over the next several hours. gusts could hit 160 kilometers per hour and waves could reach nine meters. enough height to cause coastal flooding and heavy rainfall, up to 60 centimeters likely o

i'm patchari raksawong in bangkok. >>> a typhoon is causing havoc over the philippines. rachel ferguson has an update on that. rachel, what's the latest? >> hi, there. typhoon bopha made landfall in mindanao earlier this morning. it will continue its path towards the north and the west. at the moment, it was a weaker system than it was when it made landfall but still a potent storm, this one with wind speeds now sustained at 126 kilometers per hour, wind gusts at 180. it's moving at 30 kilometers per hour. that's going to be helpful. it's quite a decent clip for a storm like this. so it means that heavy rain is not going to be hanging around, targeting one place, but it is going to be moving fairly quickly. if we take a look at the next 72-hour rainfall accumulation, the heaviest rain is falling over water. that said, the system is pulling in a lot of moisture still across the eastern seaboard, so we'll see ongoing heavy rain for the next couple of days and certainly a flood risk continuing into the weekend. elsewhere across eastern asia, fairly quiet on the continent. b
